As a consultant that operates primarily in the soccer, sports, apparel and tech worlds, I use my extensive experience and understanding of the sports industry, combined with my problem-solving and consulting skills, to advise clients on how to improve their operations, build their brands, grow their businesses, and diversify their revenues streams. The consulting process can vary according to each project, but normally falls into one of two categories:
I help companies with specific challenges or projects that require additional help, expert knowledge and strategic assistance to execute their plans
Working directly with company owners, I often act as a fractional executive, enabling their companies to tackle growth initiatives without having to load up on permanent overhead.
This could include:
In a consulting program comprised of interviews, workshops, and brainstorming with company owners and key stakeholders, I help companies uncover operational road blocks and cultural dysfunction that inhibits growth, and will lead them to discover opportunities that exist to expand and improve business operations, individual performance and sales.
General Business Consulting Process:
Define the exact reasons for engaging in this consultation and agree on the expected output at the conclusion of the process. Identify the key stakeholders that should be involved and to what extent they should be involved in each stage of the consultation. Establish what form the consultation will take and what facilities will be needed for workshops, seminars, focus groups, round tables, one on ones, etc.
Identify who will be taking part in the consultation meetings in advance and understand their backgrounds and roles within the company. Give opportunities for stakeholders to think about and prepare any necessary information in advance of the meeting, and for the company to prepare and send over any core information or key metrics that are applicable to the scope of the project.
Although there will specific projects requiring focussed analysis, the more common general business consulting for small and emerging companies will look at the current business model as a whole and identify opportunities for improvements and growth.
Evaluate the current go-to-market plan and asses each area of the current marketing mix regarding content, cost, reach, and ROI. Explore how the company can amplify their marketing reach, through establishing strategic partnerships with other companies, association, non-profits, suppliers, vendors, & sponsors.
Explore how the company currently engages with employees regarding: policies, training, management style, communications, office environment, perks & benefits, community involvement.
Summarize the key takeaways from each area, and stakeholders rank the recommendations in order of importance or impact to the business. The ranked recommendations are then further dissected, and a milestone-based action plan is created for each one, that is measurable and time-sensitive.
Depending on the amount of future involvement that each company requires, consulting can include ongoing guidance, support & check in calls, and most frequently, holding the owners and manages accountable for the implementation of the strategy of improvement and change management.
